A few weeks back, when North and South Carolina were getting pummeled by snow and ice, we actually had some warmish, Spring-like weather. I really loved it, because to be honest, after Christmas, I am done with the snow and ready for Spring. We took advantage of the nice weather one Sunday morning and took a hike along the Iller River.
OK, so it wasn't exactly warm. We still needed coats, but two layers is much better than the usual three or four. That is the Gruenten in the background.
Breathtaking isn't it?
The dot in the upper left corner is a hot air balloon. Just another popular winter sport.
Kids throwing rocks in the river.
Watch out Sarah! Lore Mae has very bad aim.
Cheese!
Now the snow has returned and we haven't seen temps above freezing for about two weeks.
With all of the snow and so many things to do I thought it was time that I conquer one of my life long fears...the ski lift. I had never ridden on one, but I loathe ferris wheels or any similar apparatus that suspends your body at extreme heights. I am not afraid for myself as much as I am afraid for the small child (in this case Cyrus) that I am responsible for. However, I gathered all of my courage and just went with it. Once you cross the gate to get on the lift, there is really no turning back. Thank God the attendant put our sled (that is how we were getting down the mountain) on a separate lift and he then helped me to get Cy seated as the chair came around. The ride up was so beautiful. Cyrus told me how proud he was of me and I didn't even freak out when the lift stopped while we were 50 feet in the air. Sledding down was pretty fun too. We went up a second time with no problems until Cy decided he was going to "cut a rug" when we hopped off the lift, and we were almost ran over by the lift and the attendant kept yelling, "Laufen, laufen!" (walk, walk) Fun times!
